What are your giving guidelines? Please review Safeco Insurance Agent Giving Program giving guidelines to learn more about our focus areas and restrictions.
How do I know if the organization I want to nominate qualifies for a Community Hero Award? To qualify for a Community Hero Award from Safeco Insurance, an organization must be a non-profit organization that has received official recognition from the Internal Revenue Service of its tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, is a "public charity" for purposes of the Internal Revenue Code, and work in one of our focus areas, and meet our required guidelines.
What is Section 501(c)(3)? 501(c)(3) is a section of the Federal Tax Code that establishes the criteria for tax-exempt charitable organizations. Organizations other than government agencies, public schools, and universities must have this status in order to receive tax-deductible gifts. Organizations can apply to the Internal Revenue Service for official recognition of their tax-exempt status under Section 510(c)(3).
Are there limits to the number of Community Hero Awards I can submit each year? There are no limits to the number of applications you may submit each year, but please keep the following policies in mind:
• Only one Community Hero Award will be awarded per organization, per year.
• Donations awarded through the Safeco Insurance Agent Giving Program should be delivered in partnership with Safeco Insurance to the recipient organization by the nominating agent whenever possible.
Can a group of agencies pool their requests to direct a large Community Hero Award to one charity? Safeco typically provides one donation per charity per year with rare exceptions. If multiple agents within a community are seeking Safeco support -- Safeco recommends one agency take the lead by outlining in its application the number of agencies involved in raising funds for the given Community Hero Award. Please do not send a series of different grant requests for the same charity in an effort to generate large-scale support for one nonprofit.
If I’m unable to submit my Community Hero Award nomination electronically, what should I do? Please send a paper copy of your completed electronic request or nomination to:
